In the past there was little by way of medical help for the people and children of Nyofelleh and the surrounding villages. Even basic medicines such as we would have at home – Paracetamol for instance – simply were not readily available.

The Medical Clinic building

The Charity provided essential materials, but the villagers helped by making 3000 bricks by hand, using clay and simple moulds. There was no pay other than their mid day meal.

The Medical Clinic was formally opened in the Spring of 2002, with a nurse able to offer advice and simple Medicines.

News that there is a Medical Clinic has spread to other villages. Those who previously had nowhere to turn are now looking to the Clinic for help which in many cases it cannot provide. The range of illnesses, some terminal without treatment, is far too great. And the number of patients is growing.

There is progress however. A qualified doctor now visits the Clinic for at least one day a week. And there is a link with a hospital in a major town to which seriously ill patients can be referred.

A next stage is to add a maternity section to the building so that expectant mothers and newly arrived children will be less at risk.

Development of the Clinic is now a major long term project. There are too many patients needing more help than we can offer at the moment.
